City of Gaithersburg City Manager issued the following announcement on Jan. 23.
Registration for City Residents begins February 13. Open registration begins February 27.
Resident registration opens February 13 for Gaithersburg’s popular summer camp programs. All-day & partial-day camps will be offered for both elementary & middle school ages. All-day camps operate from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; extended aftercare from 4 to 6 p.m. is available for an additional fee. Program hours for partial day camps vary depending on the camp. The majority of camps are conducted in four sessions and run from June 17 through August 2. New additions this year include half-day Youth Activity Programs (YAPS) & Teen YAPS (TAPS), offered in convenient one-week sessions to provide families with plenty of flexibility to make the most of their summertime fun.
Specialty summer clinics & mini-camps will also be offered for middle school participants, with sessions focusing on animation, Crime Scene Investigation, digital video production, music reading and vocals, and audio recording, editing and production. The dates and times of the specialty camp sessions vary depending on the program.
In addition to summer camps, the City offers specialized visual and performing arts camps, sports, gymnastics and dance clinics, and four skateboarding sessions, including an optional BMX bike session, through the Skate Park. Summer camps and clinics are held at convenient locations throughout the City, including schools in the Kentlands/Lakelands area & youth centers in the heart of Olde Towne.
An engaging volunteer program is available for youth ages 14 & older to assist in the City’s various summer programs. Youth must apply and undergo an interview process to be selected for a volunteer position. The City is also seeking qualified applicants ages 16 and older to work during the summer. Applicants should enjoy working with kids and be talented in arts, music and sports. Job openings will be posted on the Job Opportunities page beginning in February.
Gaithersburg Summer Camps are sponsored in part by Carmen’s Italian Ice & Café.
Registration for City Residents begins February 13. Open registration begins February 27. Registrations can be processed online or in person at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, 506 South Frederick Avenue, next to Gaithersburg High School.
