U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on his Twitter account on July 16, 2025, addressing recent federal employment actions and congressional oversight issues.

In a tweet posted at 2:02 a.m., Raskin criticized Secretary Rubio for terminating over a thousand employees from the State Department. He wrote, "On Friday, @SecRubio took time from his four federal jobs—archivist, national security advisor, USAID administrator and Secretary of State—to fire 1,300 civil servants from the @StateDept who each do their one federal job well. A cowardly move that makes America less safe and has" (July 16, 2025).

Later that morning at 12:52 p.m., Raskin called for congressional hearings regarding the so-called "Epstein files," urging Chairman Jim Jordan to summon several high-profile officials before the Judiciary Committee. His post stated: "Enough is enough. Chairman @Jim_Jordan should bring AG Pam Bondi, Deputy AG Todd Blanche, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino before the Judiciary Committee to reveal to Congress and America exactly what they know about the Epstein files." (July 16, 2025).

In an afternoon message at 2:57 p.m., Raskin expressed support for Capitol food service workers facing job insecurity. He tweeted: "Democrats are in solidarity with the Capitol's food service workers rallying to keep their jobs and their health insurance. Union strong!" (July 16, 2025).

Jamie Raskin has served in Congress since replacing Chris Van Hollen in Maryland’s 8th district in 2017. Before his tenure in Congress, he was active in state politics as a member of both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate between 2007 and 2016. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park at age sixty, Raskin holds degrees from Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
