Rep. Jamie Raskin, who has represented Maryland’s 8th District in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently shared a series of posts on social media addressing civil liberties advocacy, foreign policy actions by former President Donald Trump, and constitutional protections. Raskin, a Harvard-educated legislator with prior service in the Maryland Senate, continues to use his platform to comment on current political and legal issues.

On July 11, 2025, Raskin highlighted the work of Deirdre Schifeling as a local hero in his district. He wrote: "As an @ACLU freedom-fighter, Deirdre Schifeling—this week's dynamic MD-08 Local Hero—uses her voice to educate, organize and advocate for the rights and freedoms of the people."

Later that day, Raskin criticized actions attributed to former President Donald Trump regarding personnel changes at the State Department. In his post he stated: "Trump’s swinging his royal wrecking ball at the State Department, sacking the diplomats and civil servants who negotiate to end conflicts, defend human rights and save lives all over the world. Madness."

On July 12, 2025, Raskin addressed constitutional law in response to recent discussions about government authority and individual rights. He commented: "Correct, but the Constitution does say you can’t ship people to a dictator’s prison in El Salvador without Due Process, arrest people without probable clause, ban books, impose tariffs not authorized by Congress or nullify birthright citizenship. Take a peek some time!"

Jamie Raskin was born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and currently resides in Takoma Park. He graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 1983 and earned his JD from Harvard Law School in 1987.
