U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th district in Congress, posted a series of messages on July 31, 2025, addressing concerns over congressional oversight and public safety during severe weather in Montgomery County.

In a post published at 16:10 UTC, Raskin alleged interference by the Trump Administration with congressional oversight duties. He wrote, "The Trump Administration is systematically violating our legal right as Members of Congress to conduct oversight of DHS facilities. This blockade of Congress, deliberately interfering with our constitutional duty to perform oversight of the immigration system, is designed to".

Later that day at 17:31 UTC, Raskin addressed his constituents directly about impending hazardous weather conditions. He stated, "Marylanders, let’s keep ourselves and all our people safe. Closely follow alerts for heavy rain and possible flooding this afternoon and evening in Montgomery County."

As the severe weather continued into the evening, Raskin issued another message at 22:56 UTC expressing concern for residents and appreciation for emergency personnel. He posted, "MoCo, stay safe and stay inside if you can. Sending my deep gratitude to the first responders who are helping Marylanders in harm’s way during this dangerous flooding."

Jamie Raskin has served in the U.S. Congress since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen as representative for Maryland's 8th district. Prior to his time in Congress, he served on the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park, Raskin holds degrees from Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
