City of Gaithersburg issued the following announcement on Jan. 23.
The Damascus Theatre Company, in partnership with Arts on the Green, was nominated for three Washington Area Theatre Honors (WATCH) awards for the production of The Bridges of Madison County, which was performed on the Arts BarnStage in June of 2018. The announcement was made on January 20, 2019. The 19thAnnual WATCH Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 17, at 7 p.m. at The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia.
The production received nominations in three categories, including Outstanding Cameo in a Musical (Laura Searle as “Young Francesca et al”), Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical (Chad Wheeler as “Robert”), and Outstanding Set Decoration in a Musical (Maria Littlefield).
Throughout the year, Arts on the Green presents plays, musicals, theater for young audiences, comedy, and magic shows at the Arts Barn and Kentlands Mansion.
The Damascus Theatre Company is one of many organizations that partner with the City as part of its Theater Arts Partnership Program (TAPP). The City provides use of the Arts Barn and its many resources (fully equipped theater, rehearsal space, box office, advertising and marketing support) without the high rental rates of other facilities in the area. The production company is responsible for the direct production costs of the show (royalties, set and construction, props, costumes, etc.). The box office proceeds are then split between the production company and the City. This unique program provides TAPP partners affordable, quality production space while helping the City fulfill its commitment to a robust arts and cultural environment for its residents
The Arts on the Green Theater series is funded in part by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC). To discover more about MSAC grants and how they impact Maryland's arts sector, visit www.msac.org.
