Rep. Jamie Raskin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 8th district, shared several thoughts and observations on his social media platform. His posts reflect a range of topics from personal greetings to constitutional interpretations.
On May 11, 2025, Rep. Raskin extended warm wishes to mothers across Maryland and beyond in celebration of Mother's Day. He expressed gratitude for their role in nurturing and inspiring others by stating "To all the great mothers in Maryland and beyond: happy Mother's Day! Thank you for taking care, inspiring, leading and lighting the way for your loved ones to follow."
In another post on the same day, Raskin addressed an issue involving former President Donald Trump and a monetary gift from Qatar. He emphasized the necessity for Congressional approval before accepting such gifts according to constitutional requirements. His message read: "Trump must seek Congress’ consent to take this $300 million gift from Qatar. The Constitution is perfectly clear: no present “of any kind whatever” from a foreign state without Congressional permission."
The following day, on May 12, 2025, Rep. Raskin turned his attention towards advocating for Medicaid protection as well as democratic values and accomplishments with a brief yet pointed tweet: "Protect Medicaid. Protect democracy and its programmatic achievements."
Jamie Raskin has been serving in Congress since 2017 after replacing Chris Van Hollen. Born in Washington D.C., he now resides in Takoma Park and is an alumnus of Harvard University where he completed both his undergraduate degree and law degree.
