Congressmen Brett Guthrie and Buddy Carter have announced a hearing titled "Made in America: Strengthening Domestic Manufacturing and the Health Care Supply Chain." The hearing is scheduled for June 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM ET in the Rayburn House Office Building. The event will be open to the public and streamed online.

Guthrie and Carter emphasized their commitment to policies that promote U.S.-based manufacturing and enhance the domestic supply chain. They said, "Reducing America’s reliance on other nations for essential medications and health care products has been a long-standing priority of the Subcommittee on Health."

The U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) is expected to present testimony addressing key challenges such as global dependence on foreign active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), with 50% sourced from India and China dominating key starting material production. USP's data-driven solutions include a Medicine Supply Map tracking 94% of U.S. drug supply chains and a Vulnerable Medicines List prioritizing high-risk drugs.

USP's policy recommendations focus on promoting advanced manufacturing, scaling continuous manufacturing, creating resilience benchmarks for manufacturers, reforming procurement practices, and incentivizing domestic production of APIs and KSMs. USP urges Congress to utilize its resources to guide investments and modernize regulations.

For further information regarding the hearing, Annabelle Huffman can be contacted via email. Press inquiries should be directed to Katie West.
