Rep. Jamie Raskin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland's 8th district since 2017, has recently shared his views on social media regarding cryptocurrency and animal welfare legislation. Raskin, who succeeded Chris Van Hollen in Congress and previously served in the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016, is known for his active engagement in various legislative matters.

On June 4, 2025, Rep. Raskin addressed former President Donald Trump's involvement with cryptocurrency. He stated that "Trump once attacked crypto as a danger. Now he’s made billions from it." Raskin further alleged that Trump's meme coin allows covert financial transactions by foreign entities and questioned why the SEC had dropped several investigations into crypto fraudsters under Trump's administration.

Later that day, Rep. Raskin turned his attention to animal welfare issues, emphasizing bipartisan support for shelter animals' dignity and care. He tweeted about the BARK Act, which aims to address the needs of hungry pets: "Democrats, Republicans and independents alike can agree that shelter animals deserve dignity and care." He also expressed gratitude towards @MoCoHumane for their assistance.

In another post on June 4, Rep. Raskin announced the introduction of the BARK Act to aid hungry shelter animals across America. He urged collective efforts for its passage through Congress by stating: "Today I introduced the BARK Act to help America feed hungry shelter animals." The congressman encouraged public engagement by inviting followers to share pet pictures.

Jamie Raskin was born in Washington D.C., in 1962 and currently resides in Takoma Park. A Harvard alumnus with both a BA (1983) and JD (1987), he has dedicated much of his career to public service.
