Rep. Jamie Raskin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, recently shared his views on various issues through a series of tweets. Raskin, who has been active in politics for several years and holds degrees from Harvard University, addressed topics ranging from military spending to constitutional principles and international human rights concerns.
On June 15, 2025, Rep. Raskin questioned the source of funding for a military parade associated with former President Donald Trump. He asked: "When Congress funded the DOD, there was no line item for big-boy birthday presidential military parades. Where did the money for Trump’s vainglorious spectacle come from? Cutting Army pay and benefits? Reducing training? Or just Departmental slush funds from bloated annual".
Later that day, he reflected on Trump's understanding of American founding principles: "Trump doesn’t know a lot about our Founders, but they definitely knew a lot about him. The American Constitution was conceived in the fight against monarchical oppression and is loaded with guardrails against tyranny like the foreign Emoluments Clause and the Constitutional".
On June 16, 2025, Raskin expressed concern over international human rights issues involving El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele: "Trump pays Bukele to hold illegally seized and detained American prisoners and, what do you know, Bukele engages in accelerating rounds of arrest and persecution of journalists, human rights leaders and religious activists in his society. Transnational democrats must oppose".
Jamie Raskin continues to engage actively in political discourse both domestically and internationally while residing in Takoma Park.
