Raskin stated, "President Trump is reportedly taking a hammer to IRS Direct File, which allows millions of Americans to file their taxes for free. Just another pathological way the White House is making life more difficult and expensive for our people". This comment highlights concerns over changes to IRS tax filing procedures that may impact American taxpayers.

Later that day, Raskin turned his attention to gun violence in the United States. He tweeted, "More casualties on the killing fields of a nation with the highest gun violence rate in the developed world. We send sympathy and solidarity to the wounded, the victims’ families, and the FSU community in the midst of this devastation".
