Jamie Raskin criticizes dismissals affecting pediatric cancer research

Rep. Jamie Raskin, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 8th district, recently shared a series of tweets addressing various issues related to pediatric cancer research and political actions. Raskin, who has been a member of Congress since 2017, replaced Chris Van Hollen and previously served in the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016.

On March 5, 2025, Rep. Raskin introduced his guest for the evening, Dr. Lauren McGee of Rockville, highlighting her work as a biologist focused on curing pediatric bone cancer. He noted that Dr. McGee was dismissed by Elon Musk along with other probationary federal employees despite her promotion due to superior work performance. In another tweet posted later that day, Raskin criticized President Trump's administration for firing Dr. McGee amidst claims that pediatric cancer rates were increasing. He attributed her dismissal to an event he referred to as Musk's "Valentine’s Day onslaught." "President Trump says rates of pediatric cancer are way up..."

Additionally, Rep. Raskin commented on former President Trump's call for "law and order," pointing out his controversial decision to pardon individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riot who assaulted police officers. "The felon president who pardoned 1500 violent J6 Capitol rioters..."
