City of Gaithersburg Senior Advisory Committee met November 05. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee:

1. Call to Order


The Regular Session of the Senior Advisory Committee was called to order at 1:00 PM with Chair Carolyn Bass presiding.

2. Approval of Minutes

A. Regular Session held October 1, 2018

     Motion was made to approve the above minutes.

3. Discussion Topics

A. Community Facility Manager's Report

Smith shared current memberships and attendance data in comparison to last year. Oct. 9th was the highest recorded daily attendance at 194.

The Oktoberfest booth had a good location and was a tremendous success, requested more volunteers for next year. FY2019, Happy Hour will be scheduled every other month and an evening event.

We received 200 completed surveys, members want more fitness classes, socialization. 90% stated the Center improved their quality of life.

B. Follow up on Presentation to Mayor and City Council

Copies of the presentation was handed out, discussed in detail and amended.

C. Follow up on the tour of Senior Centers

Committee decided to defer discussion due to time constraints until the next meeting. Hoferek shared her observations of the two Senior Centers toured, and was impressed with the free healthcare day available to members.

D. Discuss Brainstorming List and choose priority items

The list of sub-committees was discussed and Committee decided on Active Aging Expo; Healthcare Advocacy; and Caring.

E. For the Good of the Order

Hoferek mentioned AARP is holding a Memorial Service for Richard Bauer, before their meeting which is tentatively scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on November 13th at the Benjamin Gaither Center.

4. Adjournment

There being no further business, the session was adjourned at 2:30 pm
