City of Rockville issued the following announcement on Oct. 30.

In an effort to highlight the benefits of town and city government, Rockville’s Mayor and Council proclaimed November Municipal Government Works Month at their Monday, Oct. 22 meeting.

The Maryland Municipal League (MML) promotes Municipal Government Works Month to raise awareness about the services municipal governments offer residents and to encourage community participation. Rockville Mayor Bridget Donnell Newton is MML’s president.

“Rockville, like many other municipalities, enhances the quality of life for its residents by maintaining natural and historic sites which help to make Maryland a great place to live, work and explore,” the proclamation states.

The City of Rockville was incorporated in 1860 and is one of 157 Maryland municipalities.

Cities and towns throughout Maryland have celebrated Municipal Government Works Month since 1993 as a way to educate community members about the role and function of their government.

Recognition of Municipal Government Works Month is a requirement of MML’s Banner City Program. The program fosters teamwork among municipal officials and recognizes cities and towns for exceptional participation in MML programs and activities.

MML has recognized Rockville as a Banner City for the past eight years, a designation that recognizes the municipality as one of the league's most engaged members. The city is working toward a 2019 Banner City recognition.
