CITY OF GAITHERSBURG: Skate Under the Lights at SummerFest on June 30

City of Gaithersburg issued the following announcement on June 27.

The Gaithersburg Skate Park invites skateboarders, inline skaters and BMX bikers of all skill levels and ages to skate under the lights during SummerFest on Saturday, June 30. The Skate Park will open at noon for regular operation, with best trick contests and free giveaways starting at 5 p.m. The Dialed Action Sports Team, a professional BMX bike stunt team, will perform two thrilling demos at 6:30 and 8 p.m. Stay in the Skate Park to enjoy a front row seat for the SummerFest fireworks display. The Skate Park will close at its conclusion. Please note that parking is extremely limited and vehicles will not be able to drive up to the Skate Park’s entrance due to heightened security for SummerFest. Parking in nearby Olde Towne is recommended.

Ready…Set…Stay! Why leave Gaithersburg when you can enjoy a great “stay-cation” this summer, with visits to the Skate Park, Miniature Golf Course, and Water Park. Located within the Bohrer Park complex at 510 South Frederick Avenue, the Skate Park is the perfect place to host your next birthday party, spend a summertime afternoon being active, or learn a new skill while taking a skate lesson. Skateboarders, inline skaters and BMX bikers of all ages are encouraged to join in the fun. A variety of exciting summer programs, including skate camps, private instruction, and other special events, will be held throughout the season. Popular School of Skate summer clinics, offered in five one-week sessions that take place Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, create a fun and positive learning environment for skaters of all skill levels. Registration is available online or in-person at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park.

All Skate Park participants must have a valid waiver in order to use the facility. Admission to the Park is free and rental equipment is available for a nominal fee. Helmets are required due to safety regulations. During the summer season, the Skate Park is open weekdays from 3 p.m. to dark and weekends from noon to dark, weather permitting. Please note: The Skate Park will be closed in the event of rain or excessive heat.
