3. Discussion Topics

A. Community Facility Manager's Report

Smith discussed membership and attendance; goal is to average 638 for the year. A summer kick-off party is planned with Diamond Square Apartments in June and an open house in July.

B. Active Aging Expo Debrief

Event was well attended with 575 seniors attending. City provided transportation for Long Branch and Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Centers in Silver Spring. Busses from Churchill, City of Tacoma Park and Rainbow also brought in members. Vendors were happy with the turnout.

Lectures were well attended. Breakfast was an issue since we could not find a sponsor this year. Tattoo and Caricature booths were also cut due to low sponsorships and monies were used for the Massage tables instead. Committee requested we have them back next year.

Committee stated that banner placement to advertise the event especially at the corner of Quince Orchard would be very effective. Committee requested extra time for Elder Law and Low Vision presentation if they come back next year. Committee also pointed out that the room banners at the Activity Center are very confusing, it was suggested we post the name of the room and the schedule on the door of the activity rooms.

C. Services for Seniors in Montgomery County

Maureen Herndon, Division Manager of Community Services, with the City of Gaithersburg, gave an in depth presentation about the services provided by her department and handed out flyers and contact information. She also explained about the various community and nonprofit partnerships, coalition providers, City Financial Wellness, Counselling services, Hoarding Task Force and Character Counts program.
