Chevy Chase Village Parks and Greenspaces Committee met Feb. 22.
Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:
ATENDEES: Carol Coffin, Susan Dixon, Jorie Jurgens, Susan Kilborn, Ellen Sands, staff. Alissa Leonard, Board liaison
1. Susan Dixon distributed the schedule for spring planting of the Buffer near the entrance to the Village opposite Tiffany’s as well as the exact location of areas we are no longer going to try to grow grass or mulch. (Handout #1)
2. Before the meeting, Margo Kingston noted that the Large Triangle Park located at Kirkside and Oliver should have flagstones installed at the base of the benches so that persons sitting on the benches will not have to set their feet in mud or dust.
3. Susan Kilborn reported that the Small Triangle Park’s trees planted last April are thriving. Flagstones have been placed at the base of the benches in this park.
4. Chevy Chase Village has completed all but one requirement for us to once again be designated a Tree City USA. We need to have an event that celebrates the trees in our community. We chose Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10:00 AM to plant a tree in the Small Triangle Park and give out brochures that list our local native trees for residents who attend.
5. There will be a meeting with the Tree Committee, The Environment Committee and The Parks and Green Spaces Committee later in the month to decide what tree to plant and to discuss the subject of putting signage on the trees in the Parks.
6. There were questions about how to drum up interest in our beautiful Village trees. The overwhelming agreement was that if trees were identified with signs, more of the residents would learn to recognize them and interest would expand with knowledge.
