Rep. Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on social media highlighting local leadership, book removals from Department of Defense schools, and weather warnings.

On July 18, 2025, Raskin commended a community leader: "For six years, our MD-08 Local Hero, Manny Hidalgo, has led Shepherd’s Table in Silver Spring with energy and creativity, serving three meals a day, seven days a week, to our neighbors in need and working to uplift people experiencing homelessness."

The following day, he addressed concerns over book removals in military schools: "What do 'The New Jim Crow' and the AP Psych textbook have in common? They’re two of the 596 books that @SecDef pulled from DoD schools. American servicemembers signed up to defend our freedom—their families shouldn’t be made victims of right-wing political correctness and"

Later on July 19, Raskin issued a public safety advisory regarding severe weather: "Flash flood warnings are in effect for parts of Montgomery County. Please remain safe, exercise caution and avoid driving through flooded streets."

Jamie Raskin has served as the representative for Maryland's 8th District since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen. Before his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park at age 60, Raskin is an alumnus of Harvard University with both undergraduate and law degrees.
