Rep. Jamie Raskin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, has recently addressed several pressing issues through his social media platform. Raskin, who succeeded Chris Van Hollen and has a background in law with degrees from Harvard University, continues to engage with national matters impacting economic policy, community safety, and academic freedom.

On May 22, 2025, Rep. Raskin expressed concerns about the economic impact of tariffs implemented during the Trump administration. He stated that "Even Trump's Treasury Secretary admits that the Trump Tariffs will make food and electronics more expensive." Raskin emphasized his legislative efforts with Senator Schumer to promote transparency regarding these tariffs through the Truth in Tariffs Act.

Later on the same day, Rep. Raskin condemned an act of violence outside the Capital Jewish Museum. He described it as "This murderous antisemitic attack outside the Capital Jewish Museum is intolerable." Raskin called for unity in condemning such acts of hate and extended condolences to those affected by stating, "May Yaron and Sarah’s memories be a blessing to their families, friends and colleagues forever."

In another statement made shortly after, Rep. Raskin criticized actions perceived as governmental overreach affecting educational institutions. He declared that "This intolerable attack on Harvard’s independence and academic freedom is plainly government retaliation for Harvard’s speech standing up for itself and the rule of law." He urged collective support for Harvard University in legal arenas and public discourse.

Jamie Raskin was born in Washington D.C., currently resides in Takoma Park, and has served previously in both chambers of Maryland's state legislature before his tenure in Congress.
