Raskin, who has been in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen, is known for his active engagement in political discourse and advocacy.

On January 27, 2025, Rep. Raskin expressed concern over President Trump's decision to halt external communications and hiring at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He described this move as "a devastating blow to their lifesaving medical research." Raskin announced that he is leading efforts with Senator Chris Van Hollen and Senator Alsobrooks to restore full operations at NIH and across the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The following day, on January 28, 2025, Rep. Raskin commemorated International Holocaust Remembrance Day by honoring the memory of those who perished during the Holocaust. He acknowledged the anniversary of Auschwitz's liberation and paid tribute to "the millions of Jews, Roma and others killed in the Holocaust by Nazis and fascists."

Later on January 28, Rep. Raskin criticized President Trump's federal grant freeze policy via social media. He labeled it as an attack on essential public services affecting various sectors such as fire safety, school lunches, disaster relief, cancer research, and law enforcement.
