Rep. Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, shared several statements on social media regarding local leadership and national tax policy issues. His posts highlighted his support for newly elected officials and advocated for tax deductions beneficial to victims of scams.

On December 3, 2024, Rep. Raskin congratulated Kate Stewart on her election as president of the Montgomery County Council and Will Jawando as council vice president. He expressed his anticipation of their "energetic leadership" and collaboration with them to benefit the Montgomery County community. "Congratulations to @cmkatestewart on your election as president of the @MoCoCouncilMD and to @CMJawando as council vice president. I look forward to your energetic leadership and working with you on behalf of our amazing MoCo community."

The following day, December 4, 2024, Raskin announced efforts alongside Rep. Jim McGovern to advocate for a tax deduction aimed at assisting victims of scams and personal casualty losses. "That's why @RepMcGovern and I are pressing to reinstate a tax deduction for victims of scams and personal casualty losses."

In another statement posted on the same day, he emphasized the need for governmental policies that protect middle-class Americans from being taxed on money lost through fraudulent activities. He cited a constituent named Judith whose life savings were stolen, arguing against policies that could further burden such victims financially. "Americans victimized by a con—like my constituent Judith whose life savings were stolen from her—should not be re-victimized by a government that caters to the rich but wants to tax middle-class people on the money scammed from them."
