GAITHERSBURG, Md. The City of Gaithersburg celebrates Parks and Recreation Month  throughout the month of July with special events, programs and classes. SummerFest on July 1,  SportsFest on July 15, and the Explore Gaithersburg! Passport program are just a few highlights of the  month-long celebration.

The Mayor and City Council will proclaim July as “Parks and Recreation Month” in the City of  Gaithersburg at its meeting on July 3. The proclamation reminds Gaithersburg residents of the  importance of parks and recreation facilities, programs, staff, and volunteers while encouraging  everyone to embrace active lifestyles and improve their overall health.

“With this year’s theme, ‘Where Community Grows,’ Gaithersburg will be celebrating the vital role our  parks and recreation staff play in bringing people together,” said Carolyn Muller, Director of the  Gaithersburg Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture. “From special events to sports and  recreation programs to cultural arts, we’re providing essential services that foster growth in our  community.”

Celebrate Parks and Recreation Month by visiting as many City parks as you can with the Explore Gaithersburg! Park Passport program, in partnership with G-PARC. Participate by downloading a Park Passport here or picking one up at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park. Then, visit as many of the more  than 30 parks scattered throughout Gaithersburg as you can. Send a photo of your filled out passport to GPARC@gaithersburgmd.gov to be entered into a drawing for a family four-pack of Putt ‘n’ Pool passes  to the Gaithersburg Miniature Golf Course and Water Park.
