GAITHERSBURG, MD — Last week, Congressman David Trone, Senator Cardin, and Senator Van Hollen (all D-Md.) visited Montgomery County to present Community Project Funding they secured through the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 federal funding package.

On Monday, the lawmakers visited Gaithersburg to meet with members of the Pleasant View Historical Association to present $943,000 in federal funding, which will restore and preserve a Montgomery County historical landmark. The site once served as a center of the Black community in Maryland for more than 100 years, and this crucial funding will help preserve its history for generations to come.

Trone also presented the Chinese Culture and Community Service Center (CCACC) with $1 million in federal funding to build a one-stop health center that will provide holistic health and wellness services for underserved populations in Montgomery County. The funds will be used to provide accessible, affordable health care for the community — everything from dental care to behavioral health.

“We fought hard to ensure these two very important local projects received funding to expand access to vital health care and preserve Montgomery County’s Black history,” said Congressman David Trone, member of the House Appropriations Committee. “With increased threats by extreme politicians to whitewash our nation’s history, it’s more important than ever that we ensure the next generation can learn from our past and build a brighter future, together. Thank you to Senator Cardin and Senator Van Hollen for partnering with me in this effort.”

“I am proud to join with Congressman Trone and Senator Van Hollen in delivering federal investments that will have a positive impact on our community and preserve Maryland’s rich history,” said Senator Cardin. “We call ourselves Team Maryland because we work together to get things done for the people of our great state, and we do it better than any other delegation in Congress. We will keep fighting for the resources that can do the most good based on local priorities for Montgomery County and across Maryland.”

“Delivering direct federal funding to support local priorities is a key way we support the critical work being done across our state. One of these investments will help us better understand our history to inform the present and create a better future. The other will expand our capacity to provide underserved populations with accessible, quality health care. Both are important investments for our community,” said Senator Van Hollen, member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Budget, and Joint Economic Committees in the 118th Congress. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
