Capitol Breathe Free Sinus & Allergy Centers offers a Sinus Self-Assessment Quiz, where you can select symptoms you experience that could be related to sinusitis and receive a score that represents how much your sinuses impact your quality of life. Some of the symptoms are directly associated with the sinuses, such as congestion and experiencing nasal drainage, while other symptoms may seem more mental or psychological, such as fatigue or lack of ability to concentrate.
Dr. Manish Khanna is a Maryland native who earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland. After graduation, he worked as a post-graduate researcher at the National Institutes of Health for a year, and then went on to earn his medical degree from Albany Medical College. He completed his internship and residency at the Albany Medical Center and then became a fellow in rhinology and advanced endoscopic sinus surgery at the California Sinus Institute in Palo Alto, where he performed almost 300 sino-nasal procedures.
From 2008 through 2018, Dr. Khanna served as director of the Sinus Institute of Northern Virginia. He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, as well as the American Rhinologic Society.
"The heart and soul of our practices is really the patient experience," Khanna told Montgomery News. "One of the things that I always tried to focus on was patient experience. From when they come in, their paperwork, how they're greeted at the front desk, making sure they're completely informed about what's going on, making things really streamlined for them. Patients are able to see and visualize what we're doing. We are able to explain things to them visually, give them examples, go over the CT scans with them, their endoscopic exam, be able to show them what we see so they can understand how we can help them. My real passion was to focus more on dealing with nasal sinuses and allergies. So after I finished my fellowship, I joined a practice in Alexandria, Virginia. I loved seeing the different aspects of ENT.
"My partner, Matt Ghanem, and I talked about starting a rhinology practice. It just made a lot of sense to me that this was what we needed to do. Washington, DC, made a lot of sense, because we could have a CT scanner in the office and make it more of a one-stop stop for patients, where they can come in and get their CT scans. We can evaluate their sinuses with the endoscopic, we show them their exams and make it a really positive patient experience. We've been growing since, and it's been a really worthwhile experience."
