Patent office approves 5 patents for Gaithersburg innovators in week ending Aug. 15

Patent 7

There were five patents granted in Gaithersburg in the week ending Aug. 15, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is three more than the week before. Patents included a self-referencing nonlinear frequency converting photonic waveguide and self-referencing nonlinear frequency conversion.

The earliest patent filed which was granted in the week ending Aug. 15 belonged to Robotic Research, LLC who filed in June 7, 2016.

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
