CITY OF ROCKVILLE: Wanted: Budget Ideas and Suggestions

Budget 02

City of Rockville issued the following announcement on Nov. 8.

Opportunities for the community to help the city prioritize what matters most continue this month as the Mayor and Council continue work on the Fiscal Year 2020 budget.

A public hearing as part of the Mayor and Council meeting on Monday, Nov. 19 will give community members their first chance to provide in-person input for development of the operating budget and Capital Improvements Program for FY 2020, which begins July 1.

Anyone wishing to testify at the public hearing should call 240-314-8280 before 4 p.m. on the hearing date to have their names placed on the speakers’ list.

An online survey also allows community members to choose their budget priorities and offer suggestions, including ideas for increasing revenue, reducing or modifying current services, decreasing costs, and improving operational efficiencies. Staff will compile the online submissions and periodically submit them for the Mayor and Council’s review and consideration.

The Mayor and Council are scheduled to discuss their budget priorities and their responses to a budget survey during their meeting on Monday, Dec. 10. Two additional public hearings and three work sessions will be held during Mayor and Council meetings in March and April, on dates yet to be announced. The Mayor and Council are scheduled to adopt the FY2020 budget on Monday, May 6.
