City of Gaithersburg Police Advisory Committee met Sept. 12.

1. CALL TO ORDER

The Regular Session of the Police Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:02 PM with Chair Doug Wagner presiding.

2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A. Regular Session held June 13, 2018

Motion was made to approve the above minutes.

3. STAFF UPDATES

Officer Lane spoke about the following topics:

• The Gaithersburg Police Department will be sending an officer to D.A.R.E. school late September.

• The National Drug Take Back Initiative will be on Saturday, October 27th

• DisposeRx is a product that allows citizens to get rid of unwanted/unused prescription drugs at home.

• The police explorer program is back in session and will be meeting at the Public Safety Training Academy located at 8751 Snouffer School Road.

• The department will be joining NextDoor this year.

• The RIO at Washingtonian will be hosting a 5K race on Sunday, September 16th.

• Annual presentation to the Mayor and City Council. The committee had elected to submit a memo this year.

4. COMMUNITY ROUND TABLE

1. Carol Martin and Doug Wagner advised that there were no concerns in their respective communities.

2. Andrew Bove informed the committee that his community was looking at updating their community cameras. Mr. Bove also mentioned that the holidays will be coming up and that he would be reaching out to the group to assist with meals.

3. John Monroe informed the committee that he was working with his property management to improve security within his community.

4. Diane Cabness inquired about best practices when dealing with a possible confrontational situation around secured buildings.

5. Ty Hardaway mentioned the residential burglaries and vandalism to a residential fence that occurred earlier in the year. Mr. Hardaway reiterated the importance of securing doors and hiding valuables.

6. Leslie Shapiro voiced concern about a neighbor displaying a sign that expressed a derogatory remark.
