City of Gaithersburg issued the following announcement on Sept. 4.
The Gaithersburg Arts Barn hosts the Manhattan Short Film Festival, featuring nine Oscar-qualified short films that the audience will view and determine the winners. Screenings take place on Friday, September 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, September 30 at 2 p.m. The Arts Barn Pub, featuring local beer and wine and snacks, opens one hour prior to screening times. Admission is $12. Please note that some films may contain mature themes and content. This event is appropriate for ages 15 and older.
Out of 1565 submissions from 73 countries received by Manhattan Short, nine finalists have been selected, hailing from Austria, Canada, Germany, Hungary, Kosovo, New Zealand, the United States, and the United Kingdom. During this one-of-a-kind event, the final nine will be screened simultaneously during a one-week period in more than 300 cities across six continents. Best Film and Best Actor awards will be determined by ballots cast by the audience. Votes in Gaithersburg will be tallied by the Kentlands Film Society and sent to Manhattan Short headquarters to be counted with other votes from around the world.
