Rep. Jamie Raskin, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland's 8th district since 2017, shared his views on various issues through a series of tweets on May 15, 2025. Raskin, who succeeded Chris Van Hollen and previously served in the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016, addressed topics ranging from police recognition to constitutional matters involving former President Donald Trump.

In a tweet posted on May 15, Raskin acknowledged National Police Week by stating "During National Police Week, we honor local, state, federal and tribal police." He also reminded his followers that "MAGA doesn't Back the Blue when they try to rewrite the dreadful history of the violent insurrection on January 6, 2021."

Later that day, Raskin commented on former President Donald Trump's remarks regarding receiving gifts from foreign entities. He tweeted "Trump said he'd be 'stupid' not to accept Bribe Force One from Qatar." Raskin emphasized that this is not merely an intelligence or personality test but rather a constitutional one. He stated "under the Constitution, he must seek the approval of Congress to accept a gift 'of any kind.'

In another tweet posted later in the evening, Raskin expressed solidarity with journalists worldwide facing censorship. He declared support for Ulviyya Ali and others against authoritarian regimes by stating "We stand with Ulviyya Ali and journalists all over the world...against the police state censorship of authoritarians, dictators and kleptocrats." He concluded with a warning that "Democracy dies without press freedom."

Jamie Raskin was born in Washington D.C., in 1962 and currently resides in Takoma Park. A Harvard University alumnus with both a BA (1983) and JD (1987), he has been actively involved in legislative processes for several decades.
