Rep. Jamie Raskin, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland's 8th district, shared his thoughts on governance and community in a series of tweets. Raskin has been serving in Congress since 2017, following his tenure in the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016.
On November 21, 2024, Rep. Raskin expressed his views on American governance and resilience. He stated that "For most of recorded history, people have lived under despots and tyrants. But Americans maintain the belief that we can govern ourselves in freedom." He emphasized the importance of solidarity over fear, referencing an interview he gave to Slate here.
The following day, November 22, 2024, Raskin welcomed new members to the Maryland delegation at the Capitol. He tweeted: "Thrilled to welcome Maryland Reps-elect Elfreth, Olszewski and McClain-Delaney to the Capitol and our delegation! Team Maryland stands together strong for the freedom of our people and progress of our state" here.
Later that same day, Raskin highlighted local achievements in education and sports within his district. He praised MoCo teachers and soccer coaches Allie Coyle and Greg Herbert for their contributions: "MoCo teachers and soccer coaches Allie Coyle and Greg Herbert light up the field, the classroom and the future for their students." Both led their respective varsity teams to statewide championships here.
