City of Rockville Mayor and Council met May 2.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

Present: Mayor Bridget Donnell Newton, Councilmember Beryl L. Feinberg, Councilmember Virginia D. Onley, Councilmember Julie Palakovich Carr and Councilmember Mark Pierzchala

Staff Present: City Clerk/Director of Council Operations Kathleen Conway, Deputy City Clerk Sara Taylor-Ferrell, City Manager Rob DiSpirito, Deputy City Manager Jenny Kimball, Deputy City Attorney Cindy Walters, Director of Public Works Craig Simoneau, Acting Chief of Police Bob Rappaport, Acting Director of Community Planning and Development Services Jim Wasilak, Director of Recreation and Parks Tim Chesnutt, Chief of Long Range Planning David Levy, Principal Planner Cindy Kebba, Chief of Construction Management Michael Wilhelm, Senior Neighborhood Resources Coordinator Hjarman Cordero, Village Facilitator Patricia Evans, Human Rights and Community Mediation Administrator Janet Kelly, and Television Production Specialist Hagop Balekjian, Community Enhancement/Code Enforcement Supervisor Tom Howley, Community Enhancement Codes Inspector Tony Cyrus and Police Major Eric Over

The Mayor and Council participated in a Walking Town Meeting with the Rockshire Community and surrounding neighborhoods. The meeting convened at 6:30 p.m. with a welcome by the Mayor and Council. Members of the Rockshire Community, along with neighboring communities, shared comments, concerns, questions and feedback about their community with the Mayor and Council and City Staff.

Topics discussed included the following:

• Rockshire Shopping Center status update

• Traffic concerns at the intersection of Hurley Avenue and Watts Branch Parkway

• Improving communications with the City of Rockville

• Car traffic speed and activities in the Shopping Center parking lot

• Karma Academy property update and safety concerns

City Staff will follow up on questions and issues raised during this meeting.

The meeting concluded at 8:10 p.m.
