City of Gaithersburg Planning Commission met February 7.

Here is the minutes as provided by the commission:

1. Call to Order


     The Regular Session of the Planning Commission was called to order at 7:30 PM with

     Commissioner Danny Winborne presiding.

     Staff present: Assistant City Attorney Frank Johnson, Planning Division Chief Trudy Schwarz,

     Planners Greg Mann and Caroline Seiden, and Administrative Technician Myriam Gonzalez.

     Vice-Chair Winborne announced that the Recommendation to the Board Appeals, Application

     BOA-7814-2018, a Special Exception request for a rooftop telecommunications facility at 430

     Allied Place, originally scheduled for tonight's meeting has been rescheduled at the applicant’s

     request for the March 7, 2018, Planning Commission meeting.

2. Approval of Minutes

      A. Regular Session held January 17, 2018

           Motion was made to approve the Minutes of January 17, 2017.

5. Sign Permits

     A. SIGN-15743-2018, SIGN-15744, SIGN-15745: Criswell Automotive: Three Automobile

         Dealership Building Signs for Jeep at 84 Bureau Drive in the C-2 (General Commercial)

         Zone

         Planner Seiden presented an aerial photograph showing the location of the property. She

         introduced this application for three internally-illuminated channel letter building signs. She

         discussed the details of the proposed signage, noting it is in compliance with the Sign

         Ordinance.

         There was no testimony from the public.

          Ms. Seiden voiced staff's recommendation for approval with no conditions. The Commission

          had no objections.

          Motion was made to grant SIGN-15743-2018, SIGN-15744-2018 and SIGN-15745-2018,

          Criswell Automotive, Sign Approval, based on the exhibits submitted and the staff's report,

          findings and recommendation, finding them in conformance with § 24-212 of the City Code

          with no conditions.

               RESULT:            PASSED [UNANIMOUS]

     None.

7. From Staff

     Planner Mann

             ·   Listed upcoming meetings, including a joint public hearing on February 20, 2018 (Historic

                 Preservation Element of the Master Plan); a joint work session on March 26, 2018 (road

                 typologies for Road Code); and the next regular Planning Commission meeting on

                 February 21.

     Planning Division Chief Schwarz

            ·    Provided a brief explanation of the topic of the joint work session on road typologies,

                 noting it is the Commission's initial work for a revision to the City's Road Code.

                 Commissioner Hopkins noted the importance of revamping the City's Road Code.

           ·     Provided a status update on the Kentlands Boulevard improvement project, noting staff

                 will be working on the Request For Proposal (RFP) after the beginning of the Fiscal Year,

                 subject to the City Council's approval as part of the Capital Improvements Program (CIP).

8. Adjournment

     There being no further business, the session was adjourned at 7:40 PM
