Innovation: 8 patents granted in Bethesda in week ending Aug. 15

Patent 6

There were eight patents granted in Bethesda in the week ending Aug. 15, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is one more than the week before. Patents included a game board.

The earliest patent filed which was granted in the week ending Aug. 15 belonged to The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. who filed in Oct. 6, 2016.

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
