Cost of college went up for all students at Montgomery College

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.6 percent for 2018-19 at Montgomery College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Maryland residents paid $9,966 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $348 more than the $9,618 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 36.5 percent more than residents this year, or $13,602. Their price tag grew 3.8 percent from $13,110 in 2017-18.

About 86 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Maryland residents. About 3 percent are residents of other states and 10 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 65 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,230 students received grants or scholarships totaling $6.6 million and 231 students took out student loans totaling more than $1.1 million.

Including all undergraduates (21,720), 10,417 students used grants or scholarships totaling $40.9 million, and 2,315 students took out $13.1 million in federal student loans.
