City of Gaithersburg issued the following announcement on Nov. 6.

In observance of Veterans Day, most City facilities will be closed on Monday, November 12, 2018, with the exception of the following:

• The Activity Center will open from noon to 10 p.m.
• Casey Community Center will open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Youth Centers will open from noon to 6 p.m.
• The Aquatic Center will open from 5:15 to 8:30 p.m.
• Police Department Administrative Offices will open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• The collection of recycled materials will take place as scheduled.

The entire community is invited to join the City for its annual Veterans Day Observance on Sunday, November 11, honoring and recognizing all U.S. military personnel who play an important role in safeguarding our nation and our future. The official observance takes place at 1 p.m. at the Concert Pavilion. Remarks will be delivered by special guest speaker Lieutenant Commander (Ret.) Kenneth B. Wagner. Just prior to the observance, the Gaithersburg Community Museum will open from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. so visitors can view a special display, “Gaithersburg in World War I.” At 11 a.m. there will be a “Bells of Peace” tolling in recognition of the 100-year anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I.
