City of Gaithersburg Community Advisory Committee met June 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

1. Call To Order

The Regular Session of the Community Advisory Committee was called to order at 6:40 pm with Chair Anne Byrd presiding.

2. Election Of Officer

A. Election of Committee Chair for FY19

Election of Committee Chair for FY19 was rescheduled to align with Committee policy to hold the election at the first meeting of the new fiscal year. It will take place at the July 10, 2018 meeting.

Result: Deferred [0 To 0]

Absent: Barbara Harbison

No Vote: Byrd, Hirsch, Shapiro, Smith, Streight

3. Approval Of Minutes

A. Regular Session held May 8, 2018

The minutes of May 8, 2018 meeting were approved with the addition of verbiage acknowledging the discussion regarding the absence of one member for 3 meetings. The committee decided the situation did not warrant removal from the committee of this member. Consideration of removal due to absences is addressed in the committee's Policy and Procedures.

4. Discussion Topics

A. FY19 Opportunity Grant Discussion

The FY19 Opportunity Grant guidelines were reviewed. No significant changes in criteria were recommended. If funds remain after the December 15, 2018 application deadline, the committee will explore other uses for the funds, possibly to assist nonprofit organizations with capacity building initiatives. Such a recommendation would be presented to the City Manager and Mayor and City Council.

Staff is updating the application based on the Committee's suggestions and Chairperson Byrd is reviewing the application questions and will submit suggested changes.

B. Other

Staff offered some suggestions for possible speakers for future meetings. The committee requested that Monica Marquina, the City's Legislative Affairs Manager, present the City's legislative process and discuss avenues for committee input. Staff will invite Marquina to the July 10th meeting.

The Committee requested the noting of guests on the minutes in the future. Staff will research with Mayor and Council staff regarding how this is to be noted on the minutes.

5. Adjournment

There being no further business, the session was adjourned at 7:35 pm
