Wilson Health Care Center ranked as the second largest nursing facility in Montgomery County in the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility offered 285 beds, which was 149 more than Montgomery County’s average for the same period. It assisted an average of 162.6 residents per day during the quarter.

The CMS awarded Wilson Health Care Center a 5 out of 5 overall rating, compared with Maryland’s statewide nursing home average rating of 3.1.

Hebrew Home of Greater Washington was the area’s largest nursing home during the first quarter, with 558 beds, while Sterling Care Bethesda held third place with 200 beds.

Wilson Health Care Center reported no fines or penalties for the period ending with the first quarter of 2026.

There were six non-profit nursing facilities in Montgomery County, Maryland, during that time.

U.S. Census Bureau data indicate that the country’s older population continues to expand while the number of younger residents declines. Between 2020 and 2024, the number of Americans 65 and older grew by 13%, and the under-18 population dropped by 1.7%. Over the past century, the older adult population in the U.S. has surged from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 report estimates that about half of this group—approximately 28 million people—may need long-term services and support, with projections indicating that more than a third may ultimately require care in a nursing facility.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
