CITY OF GAITHERSBURG: Registration Open for Fall Youth, Teen Sports

City of Gaithersburg issued the following announcement on June 8.

Registration is now open for Fall Youth and Teen Sports programs in the City of Gaithersburg. Fall offerings include cross country, flag football, tennis, soccer, and volleyball. Gaithersburg Sports leagues offer one practice and one game per week, allowing youth and their families time for other activities. The City also offers Start Smart™ programs for 4 to 6 year-olds in football and soccer. Start Smart is an international program designed to introduce youth, along with their parents, to the world of sports.

Registration for most programs is open until September 12. Some programs have limited space and will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Start Smart programs are limited to the first 20 participants.

Fall Youth and Teen Sports offerings include:

  • Cross Country Running – Coed: Grades 1 – 8
  • Flag Football – Coed: Grades K & 1 / 2 & 3 / 4 & 5
  • Teen Flag Football – Coed: Grades 6 – 8
  • Tennis: Pee Wee Ages 5 – 7 / Youth Ages 8 - 12
  • Boys and Girls Soccer: Grades K / 1 & 2 / 3 & 4 / 5 & 6
  • Boys and Girls Volleyball: Grades 4 & 5
  • Beginner Volleyball Clinic – Coed: Grades 6 – 8
  • Start Smart™ Football for Youth Ages 4 - 6 and their Parents
  • Start Smart™ Soccer for Youth Ages 4 - 6 and their Parents
Explore all kinds of sports at SportsFest, Saturday, July 14 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm. The free event for youth in grades K though 8 features activities and demonstrations, nutrition and wellness information, and tips from leading youth sports professionals. The day kicks off with a 1K Fun Run through Bohrer Park followed by challenges in soccer, football, baseball, track and field, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. It’s a perfect opportunity to try them all, and see what sport might be best for your child.

Register online and view complete program details under the Leisure tab at www.gaithersburgmd.gov, fax your registration to 301-948-8364, or visit the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, 506 South Frederick Avenue next to Gaithersburg High School. For more information please call the Sports Division.

The City is also seeking volunteer coaches for its sports programs. All interested volunteers are required to have a background check and will receive certification through the Positive Coaching Alliance. Call Sports Division for more information.
