Rep. Jamie Raskin, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, recently shared his concerns and criticisms involving the Trump Administration’s policies through a series of tweets. Born in Washington, D.C., and a Harvard graduate, Raskin’s background includes serving in the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016.
On April 7, 2025, Raskin tweeted his concerns about the Trump Administration’s actions in relation to China, mentioning reduction in health innovation and R&D within the Health and Human Services (HHS), and the imposition of tariffs on allies, saying, “Elon is just one way the Trump Administration is selling out to China. Decimate American leadership in health innovation at HHS? Check. Slash funding for research and development? Check. Threaten to invade our allies and impose blanket tariffs? Check.”
Later the same day, Raskin announced an upcoming live event in a short and succinct post, “Happening soon. Watch live https://t.co/RbNZLzJrRc” indicating that an imminent event was of significance to his audience.
The following day, Raskin addressed actions by the Trump Administration that involved intimidation tactics, sharing that “The Trump Admin sent armed marshals in a mafia-style intimidation campaign to silence and intimidate a witness set to testify in my spotlight hearing with @SenAdamSchiff. Today, Liz Oyer appeared undaunted, standing for what is right, lawful and just, to give her testimony.” Raskin praised Liz Oyer for her courage in testifying despite these reported intimidation efforts.
