Rep. Jamie Raskin, who has represented Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, shared updates on legislative progress and local recognition through a series of tweets this week.
On May 22, Raskin announced advancements in transportation legislation, stating, “Exciting news: today, @TransportDems advanced key provisions of my transportation bill to make it easier for communities to fund safer roadways. When we pass this legislation, we will save lives and honor the blessed memory of the Eighth District’s own Sarah Debbink Langenkamp,”.
Later that day, he recognized Rob Goldman as a local hero in his district: “This week’s MD-08 Local Hero is the amazing Rob Goldman, who has led the Montgomery Housing Partnership for 25 years. Rob serves as an instrumental force in making housing more available and affordable in our community. Thanks for a great 25 years, Rob!” (May 22).
On May 25, Raskin marked Memorial Day with a message honoring fallen service members: “This Memorial Day, we remember and honor our patriotic service members who gave the last full measure of devotion to protect our democracy and our liberty. May their memory be a blessing to their families and to all who cherish freedom in America.”
Jamie Raskin succeeded Chris Van Hollen as representative of Maryland’s 8th district beginning in 2017. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1962 and residing in Takoma Park, Raskin holds degrees from Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
