Rep. Jamie Raskin, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, used his social media platform to comment on issues ranging from public safety to voting rights and the policies of former President Trump.

On April 28, 2026, Raskin expressed concern about gun violence in America after attending a dinner event with heightened security measures. He wrote, “Those of us at the dinner on Saturday were made safe because of the large number of dedicated Secret Service agents and other law enforcement officials tasked with securing the venue. But what about the tens of thousands of Americans who are subject to gun violence at work, the https://t.co/cmRTyiG2kJ”.

The following day, April 29, Raskin criticized a recent Supreme Court decision related to voting rights. He stated, “In the Callais decision, the Roberts Court just completed its effective demolition of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The new MAGA double standard is that the deliberate destruction of a majority-African American or Hispanic district is perfectly permissible as a ‘partisan'”.

Later that evening, Raskin turned his attention to former President Trump’s priorities and actions regarding working families in America. He posted, “President Trump doesn’t care whether you can afford health care, rent or groceries. He has no plan for America’s working families. Instead, the president fills his time settling political scores and litigating beach sea shell messages from nine months ago. https://t.co/FRZBBph5JV”.

Jamie Raskin has served in Congress since succeeding Chris Van Hollen in 2017 and previously held office in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park, Raskin graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 1983 and earned his JD from Harvard Law School in 1987.
