Rep. Jamie Raskin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, addressed issues related to federal workers and constitutional democracy in a series of tweets posted on October 10 and 11, 2025.
On October 10, Raskin responded to concerns about government shutdowns and their impact on federal employees. He wrote, “And the lawsuits will follow promptly. Government shutdowns give presidents no additional authority to dismiss federal workers. We’ll fight these outrageous assaults on civil servants and public services.”
Later that day, Raskin acknowledged the birthday of legal scholar Laurence Tribe with a message celebrating his contributions: “Happy Birthday to the great @tribelaw, brilliant professor and scholar, freedom fighter in retirement, indispensable champion of constitutional democracy and the rule of law. Take a modest part of the evening off to enjoy!”
On October 11, Raskin expressed support for federal workers in Montgomery County (MoCo), highlighting new resources for those affected by displacement due to recent events. He stated, “We’re standing with federal workers in MoCo. This new resource is a diamond in the rough for our displaced but resilient federal workers. Thank you to our county leaders for defending our community and acting with great compassion and foresight.”
Jamie Raskin has been serving as Maryland’s representative in Congress since replacing Chris Van Hollen in 2017. Before his tenure in Congress, he served on the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016 and previously held office in the Maryland House of Representatives. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1962, Raskin currently resides in Takoma Park. He graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 1983 and earned his JD from Harvard Law School in 1987.
