Representative Jamie Raskin, who has served Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently shared his views on immigration enforcement tactics, media industry layoffs, and proposed changes to a major cultural institution through several posts on his social media account.
On February 4, 2026, Raskin addressed concerns about federal immigration agencies, stating: “ICE and CBP’s cruel tactics are terrorizing American communities. We will insist that our people’s constitutional rights be respected, and we will oppose every episode of state-sponsored lawlessness and violence.”
The following day, Raskin commented on significant job cuts at The Washington Post: “As a native to our region who grew up reading the Washington Post, the decline and fall of this once-great, storied institution has been chilling to watch. Today’s news from the Post about further plans to demolish 300 jobs in local and regional news reporting, international” (February 5, 2026).
Later that same day, he turned his attention to a cultural landmark: “The Kennedy Center isn’t just America’s living memorial to the late President John F. Kennedy—it’s a beacon for arts and culture. Now, President Trump wants to close it for two years for some renovation in his head. Trump’s unilateral moves almost certainly violate federal law.” (February 5, 2026).
Jamie Raskin is a graduate of Harvard University with both undergraduate and law degrees. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park, he previously served in the Maryland Senate from 2007 until joining Congress in 2017.
