Rep. Jamie Raskin, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, shared several updates on social media in early August 2025, addressing international conflict, domestic policy debates, and local government collaboration.
On August 5, Raskin highlighted global calls for an end to the ongoing Gaza war by quoting former Israeli security leaders: “Former Mossad, Shin Bet and IDF leaders join most of the world in demanding an immediate end to the Gaza war, saying it’s now an unjust, immoral and futile war of destruction guided by ‘messianic and extremist goals’ and threatening ‘the loss of Israel’s security and freedom.’”
Later that day, he announced his participation in a rally against proposed tax legislation by House Republicans. On August 5 he wrote: “I’m joining Jews across America and organizations like @NCJW to rally against the GOP’s outrageous tax bill. Tikkun olam demands our refusal to sit idly by as the SNAP food assistance and Medicaid health care Americans depend on is destroyed.”
On August 6, Raskin commented on local outreach efforts within his district: “My district team was thrilled to meet MoCo Councilmember Dawn Luedtke and her staff to discuss the importance of teamwork in providing essential constituent services. Thank you, CM Luedtke!”
Jamie Raskin has served Maryland’s 8th District since replacing Chris Van Hollen in Congress in 2017. Prior to his congressional service, he held seats in both the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016 and previously in the Maryland House of Representatives. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962, Raskin resides in Takoma Park. He is a graduate of Harvard University with both a BA (1983) and JD (1987).
