Rep. Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on his social media account regarding local weather alerts, international affairs, and infrastructure repairs.
On March 16, 2026, Raskin alerted residents about severe weather conditions: “MoCo neighbors, a tornado watch is now in effect for our area. Expect high winds, heavy rain and rapidly changing weather patterns. Batten down the hatches and stay safe! https://t.co/DW4bcpU8JN”.
Later that day, he shared a message highlighting the sacrifices of Ukrainian soldier Andriy Smolenskyi: “Ukrainian soldier Andriy Smolenskyi put everything on the line to defend his homeland, his family, and his wife, Alina. When he lost his arms and sight in combat, Alina immediately rushed to his side and has not left it since. I was honored to meet him with the Smolenskyis, who https://t.co/KLDTKOxl4l”.
On March 17, 2026, Raskin provided an update on emergency infrastructure work: “Update: Emergency repairs at Potomac Interceptor are complete; the flow’s no longer being routed through the C&O Canal. Now, DC Water’s crew members are focused on cleaning up the waterway and surrounding land. We’ll continue to closely monitor their work and raise community”.
Jamie Raskin has represented Maryland’s 8th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen. Before joining Congress, he served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington D.C., Raskin currently resides in Takoma Park and holds degrees from Harvard University (BA) and Harvard Law School (JD).
