U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin has highlighted ongoing community recognition efforts in Maryland’s 8th District, using his social media platform to celebrate local contributions and achievements.

Later that day, he elaborated on the origins of the “Local Heroes” initiative. In a tweet dated March 26, 2026, Raskin stated: “I began recognizing ‘Local Heroes’ in MD-08 in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic to celebrate the efforts of Marylanders helping Marylanders during some very dark days. Nearly six years later, we now celebrate 300 Local Heroes who make the Eighth District a truly special place https://t.co/E3yqbiHMpy”.

Continuing the theme of community acknowledgment, Raskin posted on March 27, 2026: “This week’s MD-08 Local Hero—our 300th honoree!—is the extraordinary Maryland State Delegate, Jheanelle Wilkins. We salute Delegate Wilkins on her rapid rise to be the Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee and for her dedication to leading the fight in Annapolis for the”.

Jamie Raskin has represented Maryland’s 8th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1962, Raskin resides in Takoma Park and holds degrees from Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
