Rep. Jamie Raskin, who has represented Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently addressed several issues in a series of posts on social media, ranging from youth engagement in technology to criticism of Republican policies and former President Donald Trump.
On September 17, Raskin called for participation from young coders in his district as part of a national competition. “On National App Challenge Day, we’re searching out the talent and skills of young people in Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District. Calling all inventive coders: submit your creative projects for this nationwide competition by October 30!” (posted September 17, 2025).
The following day, Raskin took aim at former President Donald Trump’s economic policies and recent international activities. “DONALD, YOU DIDN’T SOLVE INFLATION. YOUR ILLEGAL, UNCONSTITUTIONAL & DISCREDITED TARIFFS JACKED UP PRICES & AMERICAN FAMILIES ARE PAYING THE PRICE. BUT ENJOY YOUR TIME AWAY FROM THE EPSTEIN FILES W/ YOUR STRANGE JAUNT IN THE UK W/ A “KING”—REMEMBER WE DON’T ALLOW THEM HERE SIR!!” (posted September 18, 2025).
Later that same day, he commented on legislative actions concerning the governance of Washington D.C., expressing opposition to recent bills passed by Republicans in Congress. “This week, Republicans in Congress passed four bills attacking D.C.’s right to govern itself.
Democrats will fight hard against these provocations and keep pushing for statehood for the 700,000 taxpaying Americans who are the only residents of a national capital on Earth” (posted September 18, 2025).
Raskin is a longtime advocate for civil rights and local governance. He began representing Maryland’s 8th district after succeeding Chris Van Hollen in 2017 and previously served on the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park, Raskin holds degrees from Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
