Rep. Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, marked the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act and highlighted recent community events in a series of posts on his social media account.
On August 6, 2025, Raskin addressed concerns about election integrity and democracy, stating, “While MAGA pursues extreme gerrymandering and one-party rule, we mark the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act and rededicate ourselves to strong representative democracy without voter suppression and partisan lockups.”
Later that day, he shared his experience at local public safety events: “I thoroughly enjoyed greeting friends, neighbors, police, firefighters and activists at National Night Out celebrations in Olney, East County and Lyttonsville. Public safety is a community responsibility and we’re all grateful to our first responders.” The National Night Out is an annual event aimed at fostering relationships between communities and law enforcement.
On August 7, Raskin posted about an outing with JD Cocchiarella in Rock Creek Park: “Thanks, @JDCocchiarella, for exploring the wilds of Maryland and Washington with me in Rock Creek Park near the Boundary Bridge which allows safe passage from Occupied Washington back to the Free State.
