Rep. Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of updates on his social media account addressing local and national matters.
On January 23, 2026, Raskin commented on a recent hearing featuring Special Counsel Jack Smith. He wrote, “Missed today’s hearing? Jack Smith gave MAGA a masterclass in how to show up and tell the truth about law and history. The Republicans made fools of themselves.”
Later that same day, Raskin highlighted community leadership in his district by naming Wendy Ayala as “MD-08 Local Hero.” In his post, he stated, “This week’s MD-08 Local Hero is Wendy Ayala, who leads the Scholars Program at Collegiate Directions. This shining star helps many young people in MCPS and their families navigate the college application process.” The recognition points to efforts supporting students within Montgomery County Public Schools.
On January 24, 2026, Raskin addressed a local infrastructure issue involving public utilities: “My team and I are closely monitoring repairs to a burst sewage pipe in Montgomery County. We’re in close touch with local officials as @dcwater urgently responds to remediate the spillage.”
Jamie Raskin has served as the U.S. Representative for Maryland’s 8th District since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen. Before joining Congress, he was a member of the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park, Raskin earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from Harvard University.
