Rep. Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of messages on social media highlighting local celebrations and community initiatives.
On April 1, 2026, Raskin extended holiday greetings to his constituents and others celebrating Passover: “Happy Passover to everyone celebrating in Maryland’s Eighth District and around the world! May you and your family experience peace, joy and freedom. Chag Sameach!”
Two days later, on April 3, he recognized a local volunteer for her service: “This week’s Local Hero is Sheryl Brining of Kensington, a dedicated volunteer with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in MoCo. Sheryl helps our low- and moderate-income neighbors file their taxes for free through VITA.”
Later that same day, Raskin shared information about health insurance access during tax season: “Marylanders without health insurance can still get covered by simply checking a box while filing your Maryland state tax return. Learn more about how to access coverage during tax season through the Maryland Health Connection:”
Jamie Raskin has represented Maryland’s 8th district since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen. Before joining Congress, he served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1962, Raskin currently resides in Takoma Park. He holds degrees from Harvard University (BA) and Harvard Law School (JD).
