Rep. Jamie Raskin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, has recently used his social media platform to criticize former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party on issues ranging from economic policy to law enforcement in Washington, D.C.

On August 13, 2025, Raskin posted: “So much for lowering prices on Day One! Grocery bills are sky-high and Trump’s tariffs are only making it worse. Americans are hurting, 17 million people are about to lose their Medicaid and the GOP is handing out tax cuts to billionaires.”

The following day, August 14, he continued his critique by referencing statements made by Trump’s Treasury Secretary: “Trump’s Treasury Secretary has admitted that the GOP tax law has “a backdoor to privatizing Social Security.” Republicans are still scheming to steal away our hard-earned and hard-won Social Security. Democrats are fighting to protect and enhance the benefits Americans have”

On August 15, Raskin addressed actions taken in Washington, D.C., stating: “Trump can’t militarize the capital city to distract us from his refusal to release the Epstein file. Today @EleanorNorton, @RepRobertGarcia, @ChrisVanHollen and I are introducing legislation to end Trump’s hostile and lawless takeover of D.C.’s police force.”

Jamie Raskin was born in Washington, D.C., in 1962 and currently resides in Takoma Park. He holds degrees from Harvard University (BA) and Harvard Law School (JD). Before serving in Congress beginning in 2017—where he succeeded Chris Van Hollen—Raskin served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature.
